“Often times I’ll come across an atheist who says something along the lines of, “I am an atheist just like you, but I do not agree with you trying to get people to think like you. If someone wants to be religious why not let them? They aren’t bothering anybody, as atheists we should be letting anyone believe what they want to believe. I think we should live and let live. You are no different from a theist pushing their religion onto someone” At which point i normally say, “Well it’s the anti theist in me that acts this way, not the atheist” But how can any atheist be okay with others believing in a religion? Shouldn’t all atheists also be anti-theist? A theist might not be doing physical harm to anyone, but they continue to perpetuate bullshit and they allow it to continue to destroy lives. If someone believes the world is flat are you not going to at least attempt to show then that it’s not? If they remain unconvinced no matter how much evidence you’ve show them, at least you can say you’ve tried to enlighten their primitive thoughts, right? So why should this be any different for religion? If someone believes gay acts are immoral are you okay with allowing them to believe that? If someone believes it is against God’s will to be medically treated for an illness are you okay to stand by watching them die when we have the medical knowledge to save them? Are you okay with people oppressing the rights of others worldwide because a book tells them do to so? When someone is in serious need of help, and we “join together in prayer” instead doing something that is actually f***ing helpful are you okay with that?! If we are okay with letting theists believe what they want, then we are okay with them indoctrinating their children and the brainwashing will continue throughout generations. We need to all be vocal about abolishing religion, if we do nothing and just stand by we’re just as much at fault as those indoctrinating others.”
